Troy Williams’ Keynote Address for MSRJS 2018 is Open to the Public
Williams speaks at WVSU, Ferrell Hall Auditorium, on Saturday, December 1 at 7:30 PM.
On October 29, 2014, Troy Williams was released after serving 18 years of a life sentence in California’s prison system. Williams became a certified paralegal and founded the San Quentin Prison Report (SQPR), a video and award winning radio production program. Williams also co-founded San Quentin’s financial literacy program and F.E.E.L. philosophy (Financial Empowerment Emotional Literacy), and served as the executive director of the Restorative Justice Interfaith Roundtable during which prisoner participation grew from less than 40 to over 300.
In 2014, he accepted an award for excellence in journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists. Williams is currently working as the program coordinator for the R.I.S.E. scholars (Restorative, Integrated, and Self-Educated) program at Chabot College and was recently awarded a Soros Justice Fellowship where he is working to create a national multimedia platform and community engagement program that will help formerly incarcerated people document their experiences and engage the public.
