Vigil for the Water One Year Later
As we gather here this evening of January 9, 2015, we celebrate that we survived the challenges from last year's poisoning of our water system, and the attack on our health and well-being, and the damage to the small businesses we depend on. It was a time that could have fractured our social fabric and pitted us against one another. However, we joined hands, and what a difference we have made!

I spent too much time last year being afraid. When my son Sid was born in August, I was relieved to count 10 fingers and 10 toes, but not all signs of health are so easy to see. It will be years before our family knows, for example, if the reproductive health of either of our kids has suffered at all because of the chemical spill. Water is the most important resource we have and it is essential to our children’s health. We’ve put down roots in our community but they need water.
Citizen Groups Compelling U.S. EPA to Protect Appalachia’s Water
WASHINGTON, D.C. – National and local groups representing Appalachian citizens announced Wednesday that they will push the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in federal court to weigh in on the documented, systematic failure of Kentucky and West Virginia to regulate harmful water pollution from mountaintop removal coal mines.

Volunteers Needed: Puppets and the Water Crisis Anniversary
Join the Vandalia Collective - puppets in the street to tell the story of the Elk River chemical spill disaster and the chronic abuse of the land inflicted here and everywhere. We will be at the State Capitol and downtown Charleston on January 9 at 2 p.m. and joining other organizations during the Governor’s state of the state address on January 14, and again on January 17 for a massive day of legislature action. Pick up a puppet, a mask, a costume, or an instrument. Legal Agreements Require Protection from Selenium Pollution at West Virginia Coal Mines
Citizen and environmental groups have reached three separate settlement agreements with Alpha Natural Resources and Consol Energy requiring the companies to deal with their responsibility for selenium pollution into streams from multiple mountaintop removal coal mines and coal mining facilities in West Virginia.
