Keeping FERC at Bay
We need to be vigilant, in making sure that the current political powers do not circumvent or rush approval of another chairman and/or of any pipeline proposals currently in the FERC review process.
Call Now to Rein in Alarming REINS Act
REINS could severely hamper any kind of regulatory oversight of industry from any and all government agencies (such as the EPA, the Food and Drug Administration, etc.); it is broad and far reaching in its scope. The Koch brothers and other industrial moguls are said to be advocating for this legislation.
Faith, Floods and Climate Change: WWJD?
What role can churches and faith communities play in the midst of these literal and political storms? It would be wonderful if our churches and faith communities could become advocates for disaster preparedness and disaster prevention, not to mention sustainable climate action. Many faith leaders sadly see this type of discussion and activity as “too political.” WWJD?
FERC’s “Less-Than-Significant” = “Very Significant” to the Rest of Us
Less-than-significant impact? You be the judge. Each of these pipelines will require compressor stations to either be built or expanded. Compressor stations can be nuisances in the communities where they are located because of the intense and constant noise and air pollutants emitted on a regular basis. They can also be a public safety hazard in that emissions of odorless and colorless, but toxic and highly explosive gas can occur.

From Appalachia to Alaska: Some Big Challenges
From September 1 - 8, I — Robin B — participated in the trip of a lifetime. Thanks to OVEC and an anonymous donor, I participated in the Presbyterians for Earth Care N-W Regional Conference titled "Seeing the Signs of the Times; A Practical Theology of Climate Change"; essentially this involved a ground tour of Alaska from Anchorage to the Fairbanks area. Traveling to Alaska was the biggest step away from "home" that I have ever undertaken. Little did I realize how my definition of the word "big" would be expanded by this journey.
